Sunset Dolphin Tour in Kratie
End your day on the Mekong. Novo picks you up at your hotel in the late afternoon and takes you to Kampi for one hour on the boat with the Irrawaddy dolphins, while the sun goes down over the river.
How the tour goes
- 4:15 PM — Hotel pickup
Novo picks you up by tuk-tuk at your hotel or guesthouse in Kratié.
- 4:45 PM — Arrival in Kampi
A pleasant ride along the Mekong in the golden afternoon light.
- One hour on the boat at sunset
Novo pays the boat ticket and the entrance fee. A local boatman takes you out, life jackets on board, to watch the dolphins as the sky turns orange.
- Back to your hotel
Novo drives you back to town after the sunset.
Sunset time changes a little through the year: Novo adjusts the pickup time so you are on the water at the best moment.

When to see the dolphins?
The Irrawaddy dolphins live in the Kampi pool all year round, so you can see them in every season.
From around December to May the Mekong is lower and the dolphins gather in the deep water, which makes them especially easy to spot. Early morning and late afternoon are cooler, with soft light for photos.
In the rainy season (June to October), showers are usually short: Novo simply adjusts the time of your tour.
